This is me – ‘Dreams do come true’

Achieve the unthinkable
Once again i’ve been quiet and considering the last time I wrote I was heading off to the European Masters Athletics Championships in Venice to compete in the 100 m for Great Britian Masters team it’s not like I’ve not had anything to write about!
It was a truely wonderful, heart warming experience, one that since my return to the UK I’ve just not had time to digest as yet so a tough one to write about until I have.
So I am sharing with you some words I shared with a group the day before the 4 x 100 m final. Not just any group, a group of wonderful clients, friends and FastTrack Fit Camp supporters that came together to help me return to Venice after my 4th place in a very competitive European 100 m final that secured me a spot on the 4 x 100 m relay team a week later …..
‘I wanted to ‘go live’ to thank you all personally but being honest I start to talk and the emotion of your support at a time when I needed it most overwhelms me and I can’t stop the tears right now.
You’ve all been so supportive of a dream that I’ve had since i was scouted by Reading AC at the age of 13.
I continued to race until the age of 25 when I fell pregnant with my first child and didn’t return to track racing until I was 37 and this year is the first year I’ve made any attempt to bring in any real track training – I’ve just gone off my base fitness and even now having got an achillies strain back in July this has been minimal.
The one thing I’ve discovered over this experience is that I finally feel I’ve found me again, my place and my purpose – Athletics was a huge part of me growing up and into early adulthood and I’ve got lost along the way – that’s life but right now sat here on the balcony of my little room in Jesolo I can truly say ‘this is me’.
Thank you – each and everyone of you who has made this dream come true.
Now time to pull on my big girl pants, wipe away the tears and help team GB bring home GOLD …’
And that’s exactly what the team did. European Champions with the icing on the cake being a shiny new British 4 x 100 m record and a Silver medal in the 4 x 400 m the following day. What a week. What a journey.
It’s been an absolute whirlwind following my return, so much else to report and once i’ve had some much needed downtime next week I will continue my story. All I can say right now is that most of my challenges, my fitness goals have a beginning and an end…
This however, is just the beginning …
