I should, I shouldn’t, either way have a guilt free Christmas
So we are just a few days away from Christmas and you’ll be finding your news feeds full of “Finish the year strong”, “Take time to reflect” “Enjoy the break”
You might be feeling the pull of “I should be ….” But should you?
I’ve spoke extensively over the last few months about finding how your version of ending the year strong looks.
There’s no “should or shouldn’t” involved in this process.
The only “should” is to make sure that your ending the year strong is personal to YOU.
Make it about what you feel serves you best so you can start the year stronger.
For me I’d usually take some down time, this year is different. Having had my tooth abscess a few weeks ago then straight into a bout of Covid and head cold I am continuing with my training as much as normal over the next few weeks.
Not because I “should” but because I want to, I feel rested from my restorative retreat at the weekend and actually have more time over the festive break to train and bring in proper recovery without the additional strains on my body of extra running or workouts in the virtual studio classes. So I will be fitting in some quality sessions.
I certainly won’t be stressing to much about what I eat or drink though, because I want to enjoy the few social occasions and we all know that will involve a glass or two of wine (well let’s be honest it’s more likely to be a snowball or three)!
I certainly won’t be sweating this because after all it’s not what we do between Christmas and New Year that will make the difference but what we do between New Year and Christmas.
As read in a recent email from another coach …
no one got in shape in one day or one week
no one got out of shape in one day or one week
no one got strong in one day or one week
no one lost strength in one day or one week
no one gained lots of weight or body fat in one day or one week
no one lost lots of weight or body fat in one day or one week.
So bearing this in mind…
Eat all the things this Christmas, or don’t
Drink all the drinks this Christmas, or don’t
Exercise or train because of the enjoyment it brings rather than because you feel you should, or don’t
Watch those Christmas specials or don’t
Go for that long festive family walk, or don’t
Lay in till midday, or don’t
I think you get my drift.
Make the festive period full of all the things that you WANT to do not what you feel like you SHOULD be doing.
That way you can enjoy it, guilt free, and come away finishing the year strong.
Your version of strong.
