Weekly Update 23rd November: Are we nearly there year?
Are we nearly there yet?
“Thank you for another great month of Shred. Since doing Shred in August, it’s the first time ever I’ve really enjoyed doing exercise and getting fit. It’s always been a chore before and it was easy to make excuses not to do it. However, you guys make it fun and I enjoy doing it everyday and 20 minutes is so easy, whether I make the 7am live session or do it on catch up that day, I’ve not missed one session yet! I’m really starting to notice the difference in my fitness level now.” Shred 20 member, August – Present
Are you finding yourself saying are we nearly there? Isn’t this lockdown so very different from the first one?
I’ve spoke to lots of clients and group members and it would appear there are two common extremes in how people are taking their approach to fitness this lockdown.
Some are using the month to bring real focus to their health and fitness. No alcohol. Establishing a routine. Wanting to use this time to cleanse and detox.
And then there is the other extreme. Those who are really struggling with motivation, no black dress or party to focus on, no races to target, the constant feeling that their usual gym or group exercise class maybe playing the hokey cokey for a few more months to come. Not knowing if their usual routine will be back or continue or be able to provide that consistency that brings results.
Will the gym’s open? Will their group exercise class be back? I read one article written by a gym owner this week who mentioned that they may not even open until January now even if lockdown does lift with the generally lower attendence at this time of year.
But this year isn’t like any other years. Nothing is set in stone and we have to get through the days the best we can.
We all know that fitness brings more than just a cute bottom and a six pack. The mental health benefits. The focus. Concentration. The feel good hormones. The social factor or training and working out with friends. At a time like this the inches lost, lbs on the scales and pace of a run is just an added bonus.
Remember, as we edge towards the next annoucement later today, that whatever happens next just keep yourself moving, find that accountability partner or virtual group to check in with. Your Health and Fitness is key more so now than ever before.
All our virtual offerings are here to stay and with our Shred 20 and Stronger Together programs starting again next week and the hopeful return outside with our small group PT program Shred 40 and running groups you have everything you need under one roof to move forward knowing we can dance through the rounds of the hokey cokey together.
Have a great week!
